With the growing availability of remote sensing orbital spatial data, the applications of machine learning (ML) algorithms have been leveraging the field of process automation in image classification. The present work aimed to evaluate the precision and accuracy of ML algorithms in the classification of Sentinel 2A/2B images from an area of high environmental dynamics, such as Ria Formosa (Algarve, Portugal). The images were submitted to classification by groups of ML algorithms such as the Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest (RF), K-Nearest Neighbors (KNN), and Decision Tree (DT). The Orfeo Toolbox (OTB) open-source programming package made the algorithms available. Ten samples were collected for each of the 14 land use and cover classes in the Ria Formosa area, totaling 140 samples. Of these, 70% were for training and 30% for validating the classification. The evaluation metrics used were the class discrimination measures: Recall (R), the Global Kappa Index (k), and the General Accuracy Index (OA). The results showed that the KNN and DT algorithms demonstrated a greater discrimination capacity for most classes (. SVM and RF significantly improved class discrimination when using larger samples for training. Merging the classified images significantly improved the classification accuracy, ranging from 71% to 81%. This evaluation made it possible to define sets of ML algorithms sensitive to change detection for mapping and monitoring dynamic environments. Full article

Among infectious diseases, zoonoses are increasing in importance worldwide, especially in the Mediterranean region. We report herein some clinical cases from a third-level hospital in Calabria region (Southern Italy) and provide a narrative review of the most relevant features of these diseases from epidemiological and clinical perspectives. Further, the pathogenic mechanisms involved in zoonotic diseases are reviewed, focusing on the mechanisms used by pathogens to elude the immune system of the host. These topics are of particular concern for individuals with primary or acquired immunodeficiency (e.g., people living with HIV, transplant recipients, patients taking immunosuppressive drugs). From the present review, it appears that diagnostic innovations and the availability of more accurate methods, together with better monitoring of the incidence and prevalence of these infections, are urgently needed to improve interventions for better preparedness and response. Non-destructive ultrasonic testing can be used to assess the properties and condition of real machine elements during their operation, with limited (one-sided) access to these elements. A methodological question then arises concerning the influence of the material properties of such elements and the condition of their surfaces on the result of ultrasonic testing. This paper attempts to estimate the influence of material hardness and surface roughness on the result of such testing study area testing machine or plant components of unknown exact thickness. Ultrasonic testing was carried out on specially prepared steel samples. These samples had varying surface roughness (Ra from 0.34 to 250.73 µm) of the reflection surface of the longitudinal ultrasonic wave (the so-called reflectors) and hardness (32 and 57 HRC). The ultrasonic measures were the attenuation of the wave, estimated by the decibel drop in the gain of its pulses, and the propagation velocity of the longitudinal ultrasonic wave. Ultrasonic transducers (probes) of varying frequencies (from 2 to 20 MHz), excited by a laboratory and industrial defectoscope were used as the source of such a wave. The results of our research provide a basis for the recommendation of two considered ultrasonic quantities for assessing the material properties of the tested element. This is of particular importance when testing machines or plant components of unknown exact thickness and unknown roughness of inaccessible surfaces, which are the reflectors of the longitudinal ultrasonic wave used for testing. It has been demonstrated that by using the ultrasonic echo technique, it is possible to evaluate the roughness and hardness of the tested elements. Full article

The gasification filter cake (GFC) has great application potential for improving the characteristics of seedling substrates due to its nutrient richness and excellent water retention capacity. However, GFCs leach heavy metals easily and thus pose certain ecological risks. Sodium silicate can enhance plant resistance to heavy metal toxicity by fixing heavy metals. This study investigated the impact of sodium silicate on cucumber plant growth, the chemical characterization of the substrate, and the distribution and transfer of heavy metals. Sodium silicate was added to the seedling substrate mix at mass rates of 0 g/kg−1 (GFC0), 2 g/kg−1 (GFC2), 4 g/kg−1 (GFC4), and 8 g/kg−1 (GFC8). The seedling substrate was composed of a commercial matrix, caragana compost, and GFC (m:m 7:7:2). The GFC increased the content of total phosphorus (P), available phosphorus (P), and available potassium (K) in the substrate by 31.58%, 16.58%, and 80.10%, respectively. Conversely, the GFC decreased the plant height by 12.3%. Adding sodium silicate to the GFC increased the chlorophyll content of the plants, fixed heavy metals in the substrate, and promoted nutrient absorption and utilization by the plants. Compared with GFC0 without sodium silicate, adding sodium silicate at a mass rate of 2 g/kg−1 (GFC2) reduced the chromium, lead, and cadmium contents by 51.13%, 26.37%, and 90.04%, respectively, which effectively alleviated heavy metal stress and was more conducive to plant growth. This paper proposes a CFD methodology for the simulation of the slipper’s dynamics of a swash-plate axial piston unit under actual operating conditions. The study considers a typical slipper design, including a vented groove at the swash-plate interface. The dynamic fluid–body interaction (DFBI) model is exploited to find the instantaneous position of the slipper, while the morphing approach is adopted to cope with the corresponding mesh distortion. A modular approach is adopted to ensure high-quality mesh on the entire slipper surface and sliding interfaces provide the fluid dynamic connection between neighboring regions. The external forces acting on the slipper are included by means of user-defined lookup tables with the simulation estimating the lift force induced by fluid compression. Moreover, the force produced by the metal-to-metal contact between the slipper and the swash plate is modeled through a specific tool of the software. The pressure signal over an entire revolution of the pump is taken as an input of the simulation and a variable time step is used to manage the high-pressure gradients occurring in the regions of inner and outer dead points of the piston. The weakly compressible characteristic of the fluid is considered by a specific pressure-dependent density approach, and the two-equation eddy-viscosity k-ω SST (shear stress transport) model is used to assess the turbulent behavior of the flow. Furthermore, the transitional model predicts the onset of transition, thus solving different equations depending on whether the flow enters a laminar or turbulent regime. In conclusion, the proposed methodology investigates the motion of the slipper in response to several external forces acting on the component. The numerical results are discussed in terms of variable clearance height, pressure distribution within the gap, and lift forces acting on the slipper under specific pump operations. Full article

RNA viruses are often cited as a significant factor affecting the populations of both domestic honey bees and wild pollinators. To expedite the development of effective countermeasures against these viruses, a more comprehensive understanding of virus biology necessitates extensive collaboration among scientists from diverse research fields. While the infectious virus clone is a robust tool for studying virus diseases, the current methods for synthesizing infectious clones of bee-infecting RNA viruses entail the in vitro transcription of the viral genome RNA in 8–10 kb, presenting challenges in reproducibility and distribution. This article reports on the synthesis of an infectious clone of the Chinese variant sacbrood virus (SBV) using a DNA plasmid containing an Autographa californica multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (AcMNPV) immediate-early protein (IE1) promoter to trigger transcription of the downstream viral genome within hosts. The results demonstrate that the IE1-SBV plasmid can synthesize SBV clones in a widely used lepidopteran immortal cell line (Sf9) and honey bee pupae. Furthermore, the negative strand of the clone was detected in both Sf9 cells and honey bee pupae, indicating active infection and replication. However, the transfection of Sf9 cells was observed in only a limited proportion (less than 10%) of the cells, and the infection did not appear to spread to adjacent cells or form infective virions. The injection of honey bee pupae with 2500 ng of the IE1-SBV plasmid resulted in high infection rates in Apis cerana pupae but low rates in A. mellifera pupae, although the dosage was comparatively high compared with other studies using in vitro transcribed viral RNA. Our findings suggest that the synthesis of bee-infecting RNA viruses using DNA plasmids is feasible, albeit requiring additional optimization. However, this method holds substantial potential for facilitating the production of clones with various sequence modifications, enabling the exploration of viral gene functions and biology. The ease of distributing infectious clones in DNA plasmid form may foster collaboration among scientists in applying the clone to bee biology, ecology, and behavior, ultimately offering a comprehensive approach to managing virus diseases in the future. Coughing is common in dogs with tracheal collapse (TC). The use of inhaled corticosteroids is less widespread than oral ones. This study aims to compare the effects of oral and inhaled corticosteroids in dogs with cough and TC. Thirty dogs were prospectively included and randomized to the prednisone oral group (OG, 14) or fluticasone inhaled group (IG, 16). A clinical score (CS) based on four clinical parameters (respiratory distress, cough episodes, cough frequency, tracheal sensitivity) was monitored at the hospital (enrolment and weeks 2 and 4). Water intake, urination habits, and adherence and tolerance to treatments were monitored weekly. Significant improvements in clinical parameters were identified in both groups throughout the study. Between-group (OG–IG) comparisons revealed no significant differences, indicating equivalent improvement. At the study’s endpoint, the IG dogs had a significantly lower CS (5.69 ± 0.79) than OG dogs (6.43 ± 1.02, p < 0.05). Adherence and tolerance were comparable. From weeks 2 to 4, OG dogs were significantly thirstier and urinated more frequently than IG dogs. In conclusion, fluticasone provided good tolerability and efficacy in controlling cough in dogs with TC, and they showed a lower incidence of signs of hypercortisolism compared to prednisone. These data encourage the use of inhaled fluticasone in dogs with cough and TC. Full article

Intestinal organoids have emerged as powerful model systems for studying the complex structure and function of the intestine. However, there is a lack of widely applicable methods for the collection, labeling, and imaging of intestinal organoids. In this study, we developed a novel method for loading and labeling intestinal organoids, a method that efficiently collects the organoids and facilitates imaging of their three-dimensional (3D) structure. Based on this strainer platform, mouse intestinal organoids were adequately collected and immobilized, facilitating the immunolabeling workflow to target proteins of the organoids. After evaluation, the strainer size of 40 μm was considered to be more conducive to the collection and labeling of mouse intestinal organoids. More extensive research on organoids of multiple types and species origins will contribute to broadening the applicability of the methodology. Overall, our study proposes an innovative workflow for loading and analyzing intestinal organoids. The combination of a strainer-based collection method, fluorescent labeling, and 3D reconstruction provides valuable insights into the organization and complexity of these tissue models, thereby offering new avenues for investigating intestinal development, disease modeling, and drug discovery. Celluloid, the predecessor to plastic, was synthesized in 1869, and due to technological advancements, plastic products appear to be ubiquitous in daily life. The massive production, rampant usage, and inadequate disposal of plastic products have led to severe environmental pollution. Consequently, reducing the employment of plastic has emerged as a pressing concern for governments globally. This review explores microplastics, including their origins, absorption, and harmful effects on the environment and humans. Several methods exist for breaking down plastics, including thermal, mechanical, light, catalytic, and biological processes. Despite these methods, microplastics (MPs, between 1 and 5 mm in size) continue to be produced during degradation. Acknowledging the significant threat that MPs pose to the environment and human health is imperative. This form of pollution is pervasive in the air and food and infiltrates our bodies through ingestion, inhalation, or skin contact. It is essential to assess the potential hazards that MPs can introduce. There is evidence suggesting that MPs may have negative impacts on different areas of human health. These include the respiratory, gastrointestinal, immune, nervous, and reproductive systems, the liver and organs, the skin, and even the placenta and placental barrier. It is encouraging to see that most of the countries have taken steps to regulate plastic particles. These measures aim to reduce plastic usage, which is essential today. At the same time, this review summarizes the degradation mechanism of plastics, their impact on human health, and plastic reduction policies worldwide. It provides valuable information for future research on MPs and regulatory development. Full article

A tumbler screen-type residual film–impurity mixture wind separator is the key equipment for the secondary utilization of farmland residual film. During its operation, the proportion of impurities in the separated waste mulch film intermittently increases, resulting in poor working stability of the device, which may hamper long-term operation. To address the above issues, the material inside the separation unit was continuously monitored, and the main factor affecting separator performance was determined to be the challenges in the effective depolymerization of some residual film-impurity mixtures. The principles of agglomeration and depolymerization of the residual film-impurity mixtures were analyzed using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and discrete element method (DEM) flow-solid coupling simulation methods. The key factor affecting the disaggregation of the mixture was the collision force between the residual film–impurity mixture and the trommel screen. The collision force was maximum when the residual film–impurity mixture first collided with the trommel screen when it was fed into the separation device. Furthermore, simulations were carried out for different inlet structure forms; the evaluation index was the maximum collision force of the residual film–impurity mixture agglomerate on the trommel screen. The best disaggregation effect was obtained with a square feed inlet and at a feeding rate of 202 kg/h. A prototype was built using these specifications for verification. The average value of the ratio of impurities in the residual film was 6.966%, the coefficient of variation was 7.38%, and the dispersion of statistical results was small. The ratio of impurities in the residual film was kept constant during the continuous operation of the wind separator. Thus, in this study, we analyzed the agglomerate disaggregation process and provided theoretical insights for determining the optimal structures of the inlets of various cleaning devices and the feeding volumes. Synchrotron-radiation-computed tomography (SRCT) allows more accurate calcified plaque and coronary stenosis assessment as a result of its superior spatial resolution; however, typical micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) systems have even higher resolution. The purpose of this study was to compare the performance of high-resolution micro-CT with SRCT in the assessment of calcified plaques and a previously published dataset of coronary stenosis assessment. This experimental study involved micro-CT scanning of three-dimensional printed coronary artery models with calcification in situ used in our previously published SRCT study on coronary stenosis assessment. Measurements of coronary stenosis utilizing both modalities were compared using a paired sample t-test. The degrees of stenosis measured on all but one micro-CT dataset were statistically significantly lower than the corresponding SRCT measurements reported in our previous paper (p < 0.0005–0.05). This indicates that the superior spatial resolution of micro-CT was able to further reduce over-estimation of stenosis caused by extensive calcification of coronary arteries and, hence, false positive results. Our results showed that the high-resolution micro-CT used in this study outperformed the Australian Synchrotron SRCT in both calcified plaque and coronary stenosis assessment. These findings will become clinically important for cardiovascular event prediction and enable reclassification of individuals with low and intermediate risk into appropriate risk categories when the technical challenges of micro-CT in clinical practice such as the small field of view and demanding on image processing power are addressed. Moisture content is an important parameter for estimating the quality of pellet feed, which is vital in nutrition, storage, and taste. The ranges of moisture content serve as an index for factors such as safe storage and nutrition stability. A rapid and non-destructive model for the measurement of moisture content in pellet feed was developed. To achieve this, 144 samples of Caragana korshinskii pellet feed from various regions in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region underwent separate moisture content control, measurement using standard methods, and captured their images using a hyperspectral imaging (HSI) system in the spectral range of 935.5–2539 nm. The Monte Carlo cross validation (MCCV) was used to eliminate abnormal sample data from the spectral data for better model accuracy, and a global model of moisture content was built by using partial least squares regression (PLSR) with seven preprocessing techniques and two spectral feature extraction techniques. The results showed that the regression model developed by PLSR based on second derivative (SD) and competitive adaptive reweighted sampling (CARS) resulted in better performance for moisture content. The model showed predictive abilities for moisture content with a coefficient of determination of 0.9075 and a root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.4828 for the training set; and a coefficient of determination of 0.907 and a root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.5267 for the test set; and a relative prediction error of 3.3 and the standard error of 0.307. Accurate survival prediction for bladder cancer patients who have undergone radical cystectomy can improve their treatment management. However, the existing predictive models do not take advantage of both clinical and radiological imaging data. This study aimed to fill this gap by developing an approach that leverages the strengths of clinical (C), radiomics (R), and deep-learning (D) descriptors to improve survival prediction. The dataset comprised 163 patients, including clinical, histopathological information, and CT urography scans. The data were divided by patient into training, validation, and test sets. We analyzed the clinical data by a nomogram and the image data by radiomics and deep-learning models. The descriptors were input into a BPNN model for survival prediction. The AUCs on the test set were (C): 0.82 ± 0.06, (R): 0.73 ± 0.07, (D): 0.71 ± 0.07, (CR): 0.86 ± 0.05, (CD): 0.86 ± 0.05, and (CRD): 0.87 ± 0.05. The predictions based on D and CRD descriptors showed a significant difference (p = 0.007). For Kaplan–Meier survival analysis, the deceased and alive groups were stratified successfully by C (p < 0.001) and CRD (p < 0.001), with CRD predicting the alive group more accurately. The results highlight the potential of combining C, R, and D descriptors to accurately predict the survival of bladder cancer patients after cystectomy. Full article

In this article, some prescriptions to define a distribution on the set Q0 of all rational numbers in [0,1] are outlined. We explored a few properties of these distributions and the possibility of making these rational numbers asymptotically equiprobable in a suitable sense. In particular, it will be shown that in the said limit—albeit no absolutely continuous uniform distribution can be properly defined in Q0—the probability allotted to every single qQ0 asymptotically vanishes, while that of the subset of Q0 falling in an interval [a,b]Q0 goes to ba. We finally present some hints to complete sequencing without repeating the numbers in Q0 as a prerequisite to laying down more distributions on it. Full article

The poor prognosis of malignant biliary diseases is partially caused by their difficult early diagnosis. Therefore, many patients are only diagnosed at advanced stages. This study aimed to improve diagnosis by clarifying the differences in the duodenal juice metabolomes of benign and malignant biliary diseases. From October 2021 to January 2023, duodenal juice was obtained from 67 patients with suspected biliary diseases who required endoscopic ultrasonography and endoscopic retrograde cholangiography for diagnosis/treatment. The samples metabolomes were analyzed via nuclear magnet resonance spectroscopy using an 800-MHz spectrometer. Metabolomes of malignant and benign diseases were then compared, and multivariate analysis was performed to determine the relevant factors for malignancy/benignancy. For benignancy, no significant predictors were observed. For malignancy, acetone was a significant predictor, with higher concentrations in the malignant group than in the benign group. Regarding the receiver operating characteristic curve analysis for biliary tract carcinoma diagnosis, the predictive value of acetone in duodenal juice was comparable with serum CA19-9 levels (area under the curve: 0.7330 vs. 0.691, p = 0.697). In conclusion, duodenal juice metabolomics is a feasible method that is available for differential diagnosis in the biliary disease field. Full article

The Compressed Air Energy Storage (CAES) system is a promising energy storage technology that has the advantages of low investment cost, high safety, long life, and is clean and non-polluting. The compressor/expander is the core equipment of the CAES system, and its performance has a decisive impact on the overall system efficiency and economic performance. Based on the pneumatic motor, this study proposes and designs a test bench of the CAES system that integrates compression and expansion functions. The off-design operation condition represented by the pressure change in the air tank has an important influence on the efficiency and economy of the CAES system. The effect of key parameters such as air tank pressure, torque, and mass flow rate on the output and efficiency of the compressor is investigated. When the CAES system is operating in energy storage mode, the compressor must continuously deliver gas to the gas storage. The working pressure of the compressor increases with the pressure in the air tank, so the compressor used for energy storage must operate continuously over a wide range of working conditions. The parallel operation mode of the compressor is proposed to improve the working condition range of the compressor torque and current, and improve the isotropic efficiency. When the air receiver pressure is 2.6 bar and the rotational speed is 2850 r/min, the power consumption of the compressor reaches the maximum value of approximately 1233.1 W. This new parallel mode could provide a CAES unit a systematic solution. Full article

The influence of such defects, especially the interaction of several defect types on the strain-rate-dependent material behaviour, is still insufficiently researched and can represent a safety risk. Therefore, this paper presents a phenomenological model that can be used to mathematically describe the strain-rate-dependent stress-strain behaviour of nominally defect-free and defect-affected textile composites. An adjunctive damage model in the sense of continuum damage mechanics is introduced, which also considers the interaction of both defect types for the first time. For the model validation, extensive experimental tests on glass fibre non-crimp fabrics reinforced epoxy (GF-NCF/EP) composites are performed. The focus is put on the influence of voids and fatigue-related pre-damage under subsequent tensile loading at strain rates up to 40 s1. The theoretical studies show a good coincidence with the experimental results. The novel model provides a method for the efficient generation of material maps for numerical highly dynamic crash and impact analyses for defect-free and defective textile composites. As a result, a flexible and practice-oriented model approach is available, which makes a significant contribution to an improved understanding of materials and enables a future defect-tolerant design of textile composites. Ground-based microwave radiometer (GMWR) data with high spatial and temporal resolution can improve the accuracy of weather forecasts when effectively assimilated into numerical weather prediction. Nowadays, the major method to assimilate these data is via indirect assimilation by assimilating the retrieved profiles, which introduces large retrieval errors and cannot easily be represented by an error covariance matrix. Direct assimilation, on the other hand, can avoid this issue. In this study, the ground-based version of the Radiative Transfer for the TIROS Operational Vertical Sounder (RTTOV-gb) was selected as the observation operator, and a direct assimilation module for GMWR radiance data was established in the Weather Research and Forecasting Model Data Assimilation (WRFDA). Then, this direct assimilation module was applied to assimilate GMWR data. The results were compared to the indirect assimilation experiment and demonstrated that direct assimilation can more effectively improve the model’s initial fields in terms of temperature and humidity than indirect assimilation while avoiding the influence of retrieval errors. In addition, direct assimilation performed better in the precipitation forecast than indirect assimilation, making the main precipitation center closer to the observation. In particular, the improvement in the precipitation forecast with a threshold of 60 mm/6 h was obvious, and the corresponding TS score was significantly enhanced. Full article

Cisplatin-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) is an important factor that limits the clinical use of this drug for the treatment of malignancies. Oxidative stress and inflammation are considered to be the main causes of not only cisplatin-induced death of cancer cells but also cisplatin-induced AKI. Therefore, developing agents that exert antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects without weakening the anti-tumor effects of cisplatin is highly desirable. Carbon monoxide (CO) has recently attracted interest due to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-tumor properties. Herein, we report that CO-loaded red blood cell (CO-RBC) exerts renoprotective effects on cisplatin-induced AKI. Cisplatin treatment was found to reduce cell viability in proximal tubular cells via oxidative stress and inflammation. Cisplatin-induced cytotoxicity, however, was suppressed by the CO-RBC treatment. The intraperitoneal administration of cisplatin caused an elevation in the blood urea nitrogen and serum creatinine levels. The administration of CO-RBC significantly suppressed these elevations. Furthermore, the administration of CO-RBC also reduced the deterioration of renal histology and tubular cell injury through its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects in cisplatin-induced AKI mice. Thus, our data suggest that CO-RBC has the potential to substantially prevent the onset of cisplatin-induced AKI, which, in turn, may improve the usefulness of cisplatin-based chemotherapy. Changes in behavior, lifestyle, and nutritional patterns have influenced many potential risk variables globally. In recent decades, food allergies (FAs) have been elevated to a severe public health issue both in developed countries and developing countries (third-world countries). This study aims to evaluate the effects caused by certain factors such as lifestyle and dietary habits on food allergies, review the association of lifestyle and dietary habit status with FAs, and outline why more people are allergic to food sources as a result of lifestyle changes and dietary habits. We searched electronic international databases including Scopus, PubMed, Google Scholar, and Web of Science using combinations of keywords. Utilizing Excel, the relevant studies were included and the irrelevant studies were excluded, and Mendeley was used for referencing and also to remove duplicates. The framework proposed by Arksey and O’Malley was used for this scoping review. The papers published in the databases from 2016 to 2020 were extracted. A total of eight studies were extracted, and this scoping review was carried out according to the risk factors. In our review, we found that some lifestyle choices (Caesarean section and antibiotics) and dietary habits (n-3 PUFA, fast food, duration of dietary intervention, and vitamin D), were important contributing factors for FA. The obtained results of experimental studies on the influence of the physical and mechanical properties of an elastoplastic material (clods of soil and potato tubers) on the factors of its destruction when interacting with an absolutely solid body (separating working body) established that an increase in the density of a soil clod leads to an increase in the effort expended on dynamic destruction, regardless of the size fraction. Within one fractional group, the increase in force from the minimum value necessary for the destruction of the soil clod in the density range from 1300 to 1700 kg/m3 is on average 56–67 N. However, there is a tendency to increase the effort to destroy the soil clod with an increase in the size fraction, including identical density, by 7–8 N, which is 4–5% of the initial value of the destruction force of a given density. The greatest destruction of soil clods is provided at a moisture content of 22–24%, which should be explained by the formation of the physical ripeness of the leached chernozem. In addition, a decrease in soil moisture leads to a more intense adhesion of soil particles to each other and, consequently, to an increase in the force on the soil clod to destroy it. Full article

Network traffic classification (NTC) has attracted great attention in many applications such as secure communications, intrusion detection systems. The existing NTC methods based on supervised learning rely on sufficient labeled datasets in the training phase, but for most traffic datasets, it is difficult to obtain label information in practical applications. Although unsupervised learning does not rely on labels, its classification accuracy is not high, and the number of data classes is difficult to determine. This paper proposes an unsupervised NTC method based on adversarial training and deep clustering with improved network traffic classification (NTC) and lower computational complexity in comparison with the traditional clustering algorithms. Here, the training process does not require data labels, which greatly reduce the computational complexity of the network traffic classification through pretraining. In the pretraining stage, an autoencoder (AE) is used to reduce the dimension of features and reduce the complexity of the initial high-dimensional network traffic data features. Moreover, we employ the adversarial training model and a deep clustering structure to further optimize the extracted features. The experimental results show that our proposed method has robust performance, with a multiclassification accuracy of 92.2%, which is suitable for classification with a large number of unlabeled data in actual application scenarios. This paper only focuses on breakthroughs in the algorithm stage, and future work can be focused on the deployment and adaptation in practical environments. Full article

Hydrogen as an energy vector is going to play an important role in the global energy mix. On the other hand, wastewater management has become a worldwide concern, as urban settlements have been considerably increasing for decades. Consequently, biodigestion to produce biogas (rich in methane) in water treatment plants could be an interesting starting point to obtain a valuable gas that can be converted into hydrogen through steam reforming. The aim of this work was to review the main aspects concerning steam reforming of biogas from wastewater treatment plants. For this purpose, the whole chain, from water treatment to hydrogen production and purification, was considered, paying attention to the main challenges and new technologies for its optimization. Thus, a wide range of possibilities is offered, from direct energy use of syngas to high purification of hydrogen (mainly through pressure swing adsorption or membrane reactors), presenting advantages and disadvantages. In any case, the role of catalysts seems to be essential, and aspects such as hydrogen sulfide and coke deposition control should be addressed. In conclusion, biogas steam reforming applied to wastewater treatment plants is a reality, with serious possibilities for its global implementation at the industrial level, according to techno-economic assessment. Skilled staff are essential for successfully managing child malnutrition, especially when dealing with small, nutritionally at-risk infants aged under 6 months. Training and patient management tools provide healthcare workers with core knowledge, skills, and support. To inform more effective future approaches and support the rollout of new WHO wasting prevention/treatment guidelines, we aimed to map and understand globally available training and patient management tools. In a mixed-methods study, we searched the literature to identify different training packages and management tools and conducted semi-structured key informant interviews with staff working in a variety of internationally organizations and settings. Data were analyzed using a phenomenological approach. We found 14 different training packages targeting different settings, including inpatient, outpatient, and humanitarian contexts. Curricula varied, especially around breastfeeding and maternal assessment, mental health, and nutritional status. Key informants (n = 9) reported gaps regarding counseling skills, time for practice, and how to effectively provide mental health counseling. Training delivery was highly dependent on resources and setting. In conclusion, future training should consider setting-specific needs, opportunities, and limitations. Emphasis on breastfeeding-support skills, mental health support, and counseling skills is needed. Enhanced practical sessions, refresher trainings, and ongoing monitoring and support are vital to ensure sustained high-quality services. Full article

Triazole fungicides can threaten plants as abiotic stressors but can also positively affect plant defense by inducing priming. Thus, plant yield is also both protected and endangered by triazoles that may influence several metabolic pathways during maturation processes, such as the biosynthesis of saccharides or secondary metabolites. Here, Solanum lycopersicum L. plants were exposed to foliar and soil applications of penconazole, tebuconazole, or their combination, and their resulting effect on tomato fruits was followed. The exposure to the equimolar mixture of both triazoles influenced the representation of free proteinogenic amino acids, especially Gln, Glu, Gly, Ile, Lys, Ser and Pro, saccharide content, and led to a significant increase in the contents of total phenolics and flavonoids as well as positive stimulation of the non-enzymatic antioxidant system. Among the identified secondary metabolites, the most abundant was naringenin, followed by chlorogenic acid in tomato peel. In turn, all triazole-treated groups showed a significantly lower content of rosmarinic acid in comparison with the control. Foliar application of penconazole affected the fruit more than other single triazole applications, showing a significant decrease in antioxidant capacity, the total content of secondary metabolites, and the activities of total membrane-bound peroxidases and ascorbate peroxidase.
